MCMCT Parent Leaders Attend City Council Meeting

The main objective of the Parents Matter Project, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), is to empower parents with children 6 to 12 years old with the skills and knowledge to strengthen their children’s social and emotional strengths.

To achieve goal 5 of MCMCT, parent leaders attended the Community Development and Recreation Committee meeting on June 7, 2017 at City Council.

Tania Riverol Diaz and Georgina Velandra from Parkdale neighborhood presented the importance of having accessible affordable and high quality out-of-school-time programs in their communities. They urged the City Council not to close great programs when implementing the provincial Guidelines for Authorization of Recreational Programs. They asked the City Council to give the city’s Child and Family Services more time to conduct field conversations with active stakeholders. Check their civic involvement and deputation speeches.
