Current Initiative - Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) 2016-2019

MCMCT received a 3-year Ontario Trillium Foundation grant to equip racialized, newcomer and low-income parents with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to support children 6 to 12 years of age facing barriers to develop their emotional and social strengths.

The overall goal of the Parents Matter Project is to expand the successful Hospital for Sick Children’s, “Learning about Middle Childhood” series of learning sessions (positive parenting workshops) that have been done in community settings facilitated by Paediatric Residents such as “Sleep and Sleep Routines”.

Through all the project’s activities, parents will be able to better support their children’s overall resiliency as well as their self-awareness, self-esteem, self-regulation, critical thinking, problem solving abilities, and communication abilities. MCMCT also engages a diverse demographic of parent leaders who act as our parent council, community outreach liaisons and co-facilitators for the learning sessions.

Thanks to Ontario Trillium Foundation for making it possible for parents with children ages to learn about:

  • Ages and Stages
  • Body Image and Self-esteem
  • Children’s Mental Health Challenges and Seeking Support
  • Counting on Math
  • Growing Healthy Minds
  • Heading Out into the World
  • Healthy Nutrition
  • Keeping Children Safe Online

  • Raising Responsible Digital Children
  • Reading is everywhere

The Parents Matter Project, through parent learning sessions and symposiums, equips parents, caregivers and adult allies with the skills, knowledge and resources they need to support children and youth facing barriers to develop emotional and social strengths.
