About the Coalition

About the Coalition

Middle Childhood Matters Coalition Toronto (MCMCT) is a group of 20 social service, child welfare, education, recreation and health organizations who have been working together with parents since 2004. The Coalition brings organizations and families together to highlight the importance of middle childhood (6 to 12 years old) and to promote high quality, affordable, accessible and culturally appropriate out-of-school time programs (before and after school time, summertime and holidays).

The Coalition has been one of the driving forces behind the development of the City of Toronto Middle Childhood Strategy Framework. In Ontario, the early years and youth strategies are well known and supported and there is a growing movement to formalize a middle childhood strategy.

More information about the history of the Coalition, including achievements, partnerships and projects, is available in this presentation “10 in 10: 10 years in 10 minutes.”

Our Vision

A city where all children ages 6 to 12 and their families have equitable opportunities and resources to thrive.

Our Mission

Actively promoting and influencing a system that prioritizes children ages 6 to 12 and their families.

Our Core Values

  • We believe all families should have access to high-quality programs before and after the school day, summer and holidays. Families should be able to count on sustainable programs in their neighborhoods.
  • We believe children ages 6 to 12 and their families need the support of their community to raise awareness about their unique needs.
